Okay, so ya wanna know the story? Well, I attended Hofstra University in Hempstead Long Island (NY) from the fall of 1984 to the spring of 1988. Believe it or not, I majored in Communications-Broadcasting-Radio. And minored in History. On Halloween 1988 I began my career at WHTG-FM (Eatontown NJ). "FM 106.3" is one of America's original commercial "alternative" or "Modern Rock" radio stations. When we began playing this music that at the time had no "name", we were one of, maybe, 6 or 7 stations in the entire country playing the stuff. I have been a fixture at WHTG on Sunday nights ever since. In late June 1996 I was given the freedom to play whatever the hell I wanted to on a show called "The Underground". In November of 2000 WHTG was sold to Press Communications. I was one of the few DJs held onto by our new owners. At the end Of March 2001, I was relieved of my duties at WHTG. As of Labor Day weekend 2001 I am the nighttime dj (7pm-12m, Mon-Fri) at WBJB-FM, "90.5 The Night", an NPR affiliate station at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft NJ. I am also the Music Director. Which basically means that all of the music decisions are made by me and only me. Yeah baby! Technically our format is Triple A or Adult Album Alternative...but you're just as likely to hear REM as you are Ani DiFranco as you are The Cure as you are John Hiatt as you are Marvin Gaye as you are Bruce Springsteen... Get the idea? Most other nights of the week I can be found in any number of New Jersey or New York City rock clubs. I've spent more hours in dark, loud, smoky rooms than any human being should subject himself to. I don't know what else to tell you... |
